Hospital Bed and Record Player Win DesignEuropa Design Award 2024

The DesignEuropa Awards were presented on 25 September at the National Library in Riga, Latvia. Organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the awards aim to highlight excellence in industrial design and emphasize the importance of designers protecting their creations through registration.

In the Entrepreneur and Small Business category, the Swedish company Transparent won with its innovative and stylish Transparent Turntable, an aluminum and glass record player designed by Per Brickstad.

In the Industry category, the Essenza 300 LT hospital bed by LINET took the top prize. This advanced medical bed is designed to enhance both patient care and caregiver efficiency, significantly improving healthcare outcomes and the daily operations of medical facilities.

German designer Dieter Rams received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Over his more than 40-year career at Braun, Rams and his team designed numerous iconic products, such as the SK4 radio-turntable combination, the T2 cylindrical lighter, and the T1000 world receiver. These designs, with their minimalist and functional approach, revolutionized the household appliance sector. Rams also promoted sustainable design, combining functionality with environmental consciousness. His "Ten Theses for Good Design," including the renowned principle "less but better," have influenced design, aesthetics, and culture for decades.

The Next Generation Design Award was given to Italian designer Chiara Mignani. Her yacht designs for NERO Yachts incorporate advanced eco-friendly technologies, including electric drive systems and carbon fiber construction. Her work emphasizes multifunctionality and a deep connection with nature, aiming to enhance the yachting experience through innovative and sustainable solutions.
