Intellectual Property Highlighted during Iceland Innovation Week

The Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) hosted two well-attended events during the recent Iceland Innovation Week. Both featured a rich programme of insightful talks on intellectual property (IP) rights and related topics.
At the Branding Innovation event on Tuesday, held at Gróska in collaboration with the Federation of Icelandic Industries (SI) and ÍMARK, the focus was on trademarks in innovation. Representatives from Icelandic startups and creative companies shared their experiences on building a brand that stands out—both locally and internationally. They explored how trademarks and trademark registration support growth and why securing IP rights early is vital.
Speakers at the event were:
- Arndís Huld Hákonardóttir, Vice Chair of ÍMARK
- Sigurður Þorsteinsson, Brand and Design Director at Blue Lagoon
- Eyrún Jónsdóttir, Head of Publishing at CCP
- Egill Gauti Þorkelsson, Founder and Marketing Director at Eimverk
- Unnur Ársælsdóttir, Marketing Director at Smitten

- Erla Tinna Stefánsdóttir, Business Advisor at the Federation of Icelandic Industries (SI)
The event was moderated by Eiríkur Sigurðsson, Head of Communications at ISIPO.
On Thursday, the spotlight turned to intellectual property in the music industry during Feel the Beat of IP, co-hosted by ISIPO, the Iceland Music Office, STEF (the Performing Rights Association of Iceland), and Bird RVK on the occasion of World IP Day. Topics included trademark registration for musicians, brand building with BRÍET and Iceland Airwaves, patents, artificial intelligence, innovation, and more. Icelandic musician Salóme Katrín also performed a selection of original songs.
Speakers at the event were:
- Borghildur Erlingsdóttir, Director General of ISIPO
- María Rut Reynisdóttir, Managing Director of the Iceland Music Office
