Nominations open for EPO’s Young Inventors Prize to be awarded in Iceland next spring

02. September 2024

Nominations are now open for the European Patent Office (EPO) Young Inventors Prize, with submissions accepted until September 27. The awards were first introduced during the European Inventor Award ceremony in Munich in 2022. The inaugural dedicated award ceremony for Young Inventors Prize will take place in Reykjavík next spring.

Anyone can nominate innovators under the age of thirty, whether individuals or groups, who have developed and published technological innovations that contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. This is a unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs to gain international recognition for ingenious inventions that promote a better future.

An independent jury, composed of previous recipients of the European Inventor Award, will select the prize winners from the nominations. The jury will consider the following hierarchy when evaluating the supportive documentation submitted with the nominated initiatives (listed in order of importance): granted patents/utility models, published patent/utility model applications, trademark and industrial design registrations, published scientific articles, other forms of public dissemination.

Ten individuals or groups will be selected as "Tomorrow Shapers" and will each receive a cash prize of 5,000 euros. Additionally, the EPO will promote these entrepreneurs across various platforms, including its website, social media, and other media outlets. From this group, winners in three categories will be awarded an additional 15,000 euros each. There will also be a "People's Choice" award based on an online public vote.
