The ISIPO Gazette to Be Published Weekly

As of the beginning of the new year, the ISIPO Gazette will be issued weekly instead of monthly.
The increased publication frequency responds to requests from customers who have, until now, had to wait up to six weeks from the time decisions regarding intellectual property rights were made until their official publication. With the new weekly schedule, decisions may be published as soon as three days after being issued.
Weekly publication aligns with practices in comparable jurisdictions and with international bodies such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO).
The ISIPO Gazette contains announcements and notices relating to intellectual property applications and registrations in Iceland. The main changes coming into effect at the beginning of 2026 are:
- The Gazette will be published every Wednesday, starting on 7 January 2026.
- On the second Wednesday of each month, the Gazette will include all types of announcements, i.e., it will feature all the same sections as before, as applicable.
- On other Wednesdays, the Gazette will include only specific types of notices: trademark publications, design registrations, accessible patent applications, translations of claims of European patent applications requested for early publication, as well as notices of oppositions and appeals.
Later in 2026, further changes are planned, when the Gazette will transition to a fully digital format.
