Directors General and Communications Directors from the Nordic and Baltic IP Offices Meet in Iceland

Last week, the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office hosted Directors General and Communications Directors from the IP offices of the Nordic and Baltic countries for annual consultation meetings focused on strategic development, digital transformation, and international cooperation.
At the Directors General meeting, participants shared insights on application trends, institutional priorities, and the integration of new technologies to improve efficiency and service delivery. Artificial intelligence featured prominently, alongside discussions on how IP offices can respond to global challenges. The agenda also addressed the implementation of the EU design reform, a new international treaty on design protection, and the importance of a Nordic-Baltic voice in collaboration with global institutions such as WIPO, EUIPO, and the EPO.
The Communications Directors explored how to better engage startups and SMEs, shared best practices in public outreach and awareness campaigns, and discussed the evolving role of AI in IP communications.
The programme concluded with a visit to Carbfix, a leading Icelandic innovator in carbon capture and storage. A nominee for the Nordic Innovation Award 2025 and recipient of the Icelandic Innovation Award 2024 and the WIPO Global Award 2025, Carbfix exemplifies how IP rights can drive and protect world-class innovation.
