EPO calls for suggestions and opinions regarding Observatory on Patents and Technology

21. February 2023
The European Patent Office (EPO) will launch its dedicated Observatory on Patents and Technology in the second half of 2023. The Observatory will contribute to a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of important issues related to the future of innovation and technology, and their impact on the patent system.
Based on the feedback gathered from an online consultation run in February 2022, the EPO presented a comprehensive proposal to the Administrative Council in June 2022, which was received positively (link Administrative Council document CA/47/22).
Preparations to draft the first biennial Work Plan (2023-2025) are underway. In this context, the EPO has launched a second public consultation to represent all stakeholders’ interests and include diverse viewpoints in the first Work Plan. The EPO has already drawn up an initial list of topics and initiatives and would be interested in hearing your thoughts about (a) topics to be addressed and (b) activities and tools to be developed.
This consultation will run until Friday 10 of March and is open to all interested stakeholders and experts of the innovation ecosystem. Participation is encouraged from a broad community of innovation experts and not only IP specialists.
Further information is available on the EPO website.
