The European Inventor Network, the European Patent Office's (EPO) network of inventors, has awarded grants to five Icelandic projects for 2027. The projects cover astronomy, mathematics, aviation, podcasting and ants.

The aim of the European Inventor Network grants is to spark interest in science and innovation among young people aged 6–18, for example through educational talks, workshops and creative activities. The projects are also linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Each project receives a grant of EUR 2,000, or around ISK 270,000.

In total, 120 projects in 39 EPO member states receive funding this time. Including projects from previous years, the network's activities are expected to have reached more than 22,000 students in over 200 schools by the end of 2027.

The five Icelandic projects:

  • Huld Hafliðadóttir – Rural STEM takes flight
  • Matthias Harksen – Two-day astronomy camp
  • Marco Mancini – Ants at work
  • Nanna Kristjánsdóttir and Álfheiður Edda Sigurðardóttir – Maths camp for girls and non-binary students
  • Sandra Mjöll Jónsdóttir Buch – Voices of the future: Young people create podcasts about technology and science

The Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) congratulates the grant recipients.

Information on all 2027 projects is available on the EPO website.
