Meeting on Trademarks and Designs with the Nordic and Baltic Countries

This week, representatives from the intellectual property offices of the Nordic and Baltic countries met in the offices of the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) to discuss registered trademarks and designs. This was the final consultation meeting of its kind to be held in Iceland this year. Earlier in the year, the directors of all the offices convened in Iceland, alongside meetings focused on patents and communication matters.
The meeting addressed key projects related to trademarks and design protection, including the use of artificial intelligence, the implementation of the new EU Design Directive, and knowledge sharing on intellectual property rights. Among the insights shared was the observation that while international applications for trademark registration appear to be declining, the number of national applications is steadily increasing.
Representing Iceland at the meeting were Dagný Fjóla Jóhannsdóttir, Head of IP; Brynhildur Pálmarsdóttir, Head of Legal Affairs; and Sandra Theódóra Árnadóttir, Legal Advisor.
These annual consultation meetings between the Nordic and Baltic countries form an important part of the region's strong cooperation in the field of intellectual property and serve as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and experience between offices. Each year, one of the participating countries hosts the meetings, and this year, Iceland was the host. The next meetings will take place in Denmark next year.
