The Icelandic state participates in restrictive measures of the European Union (EU) against Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine and has complied with the Union's regulation No. 269/2014 on restrictive measures in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Universities, Industry and Innovation has requested the participation of the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office in these measures. It has therefore been decided that Russian legal entities and individuals who are on the EU's sanctions list cannot obtain registration of new Intellectual Property Rights in Iceland, nor request changes of any rights that are in process or registered. Any requests or applications of the parties concerned will be put on hold, however, rights will not be revoked.
