Information on Intellectual Property Rights Now Available on island.is

The Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) is pleased to announce that individuals and businesses can now access information about their patents, registered trademarks, and designs on the island.is platform. This initiative allows users to view details of their intellectual property (IP) rights in the same way they can view information such as real estate and vehicle ownership, directly within the My pages of island.is.

In ongoing efforts to enhance digital services and communication with its clients, the ISIPO aims to transition most of its correspondence, including notifications on trademark and design renewals, registration refusals, and other significant updates, to island.is's digital mailbox in the forthcoming months.

This publication of IP ownership on island.is marks a significant milestone in ISIPO‘s digital transformation journey, realized through effective collaboration with Digital Iceland, Hugsmiðjan, Origo, and Sensa. Notably, the web services developed by Sensa for this project facilitate the dissemination of information about Icelandic intellectual property rights not only on the ISIPO‘s website but also across major international platforms. These include the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and several global private entities specializing in IP rights search services.

The adoption of this digital solution for publishing IP rights information on island.is represents the fourth technological advancement by the ISIPO, in partnership with Digital Iceland, aimed at refining the offices‘s digital offerings. Previous initiatives include the introduction of a universal login service, a digital mailbox, and the Straumurinn data exchange layer (X-Road), all designed to streamline interactions and services for clients.
