The Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) has introduced a new strategy extending to 2028. According to this strategy, the role of the Office is to oversee intellectual property matters in Iceland, disseminate knowledge, and engage in active dialogue with society and industry on issues related to intellectual property rights. The core values that will shape the work ahead are professionalism, collaboration, and innovation. Based on these values, three primary goals have been established, which are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to decent work and economic growth, as well as innovation and infrastructure:

  • To provide outstanding service,
  • To be a center of professional excellence,
  • To be an exceptional workplace.

Alongside the new strategy, the ISIPO’s organizational structure has been revised, consolidating its divisions into two: Finance and Operations and IP Rights The aim of these organizational changes is to simplify the structure, enhance teamwork, clarify roles and processes, and streamline workflows. Teams are now organized around the ISIPO’s key processes, ensuring that the handling, administration, and processing of intellectual property registration applications all fall within a single division.

The vision for the future is for the ISIPO to be a knowledge hub for intellectual property rights in a society driven by innovation, and a strong link in the chain of innovation and economic development.

The strategy development was led by Arnar Pálsson from Arcur and Herdís Haraldsdóttir from Irpa, in collaboration with the management and staff of the ISIPO.
