11. July 2025
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency responsible for intellectual property rights, honors Carbfix for outstanding innovation promoting sustainability.
Geneva, July 11, 2025 – Carbfix has been awarded the WIPO Global Award 2025 in the environment category. Edda Sif Pind Aradóttir, CEO of Carbfix, also received special recognition as Best Female Innovator. The awards were presented during the WIPO General Assemblies at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The WIPO Global Award distinguishes startups and SMEs that have successfully leveraged IP to transform their innovations into tangible economic and social impact. Carbfix is one of ten global companies selected for this honor from a pool of 780 applicants across 95 countries.
Carbfix earned the award for its groundbreaking and patented method of permanently storing CO₂ in rock formations, effectively mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. The company was recognized for its strategic use of IP protection throughout the development and scaling of its technology — addressing one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time.
“It is a tremendous honor for Carbfix to receive the WIPO Global Award,” said Edda Sif Pind Aradóttir, CEO of Carbfix, during the ceremony. “This recognition reflects the dedication we’ve put into developing and scaling the Carbfix technology, and our focused IP strategy. We are proud to receive such a distinction on the global stage and to represent Iceland among the world’s most forward-thinking innovators.”
The annual WIPO General Assembly in Geneva is currently being attended by over 1,400 delegates, including representatives from Iceland’s Intellectual Property Office. Award recipients are provided with tailored guidance and expert support on IP rights and global collaboration and are promoted worldwide through WIPO’s various outreach initiatives.
“The winners of the 2025 Global Awards are not just inventive, they are strategic, impact-driven, and globally minded,” said Marcelo Di Pietro, Director of the WIPO Awards Program. “We’re proud to support their journey.”
